Notre Dame football is back in less than a week and the fighting Irish will have to be at their best @ #2 Ohio State. Notre Dame is currently ranked 5th in the nation according to preseason poll. Following a 11-2 season which included a loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, Notre Dame will look to get off to a fast start to the 2022 season, despite being a huge underdog in week one.
Recently, Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman was asked about being a 3 possession underdog to Ohio State. Here was his response…”I didn’t know that. I’m gonna write that down. You said 17.5 points, right? We’ll use that in a team meeting today. It’s good to know.”
Its safe to say that the fighting Irish will use the (17.5) point spread as motivation leading up to Saturday’s battle in Ohio Stadium. It will be an emotional return for HC Freeman. Freeman played linebacker for Ohio State from 2004-2008. He went on to play in the NFL for a brief period before starting to coach.
So, is the spread (Notre Dame (+17.5)) too lopsided or is Ohio State going to come out blazing in week one?? How will Notre Dame respond to being a large underdog on the road?
