Many former NFL stars have expressed their displeasure over the disrespect Cam Newton received after the three-time Pro Bowler was involved in a brawl. Among those who shared their thoughts was Denver Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe.
Just recently, Newton was invited to appear before young athletes in a football event organized by We Ball Sports in Atlanta. The said company deals mainly with sports media and apparel.
During the event itself, the former NFL quarterback was approached by several participants at the top of a stairs. At this point, a fight ensued and escalated to the grassy field below.
Furthermore, reports mentioned that two of the individuals caught fighting were Top Performance coaches and guys formerly coached by Newton himself. Included in the football camp is Newton’s own C1N program, which boasts young under-15 and under-18 teams in Alabama and Georgia.
Former NFL Star Shannon Sharpe Shares Sharp Take on Brawl Involving Cam Newton
Right after the incident, Shannon Sharpe appeared on the Nightcap podcast along with Chad Johnson to give their take on the matter. In a video clip posted on X:

The pair emphasized how Newton has been disrespected at these camps, instead of the participants and their families learning from the former quarterback. Sharpe emphasized that Newton has been exemplary in all of these, and it doesn’t seem he fought back during the said brawl.
“When you have someone like Cam Newton giving players an opportunity to display themselves at these 7-on-7 camps, you’re supposed to be taking advantage of these situations. Many times I’ve seen players, coaches and parents disrespect Cam Newton at these camps,” Johnson said.
Going further, Sharpe explained how Peyton and Eli Manning’s experiences at these camps greatly differ from Newton’s.
“Peyton and Eli [Manning] have been having a camp for 20-something years,” Sharpe added. “You ain’t never seen no kids being disrespectful to Peyton and Eli,” Sharpe added.
What the aftermath of this incident will look like for Newton and those involved remains to be seen. What’s certain, though, is that the former quarterback doesn’t lack supporters in the NFL.
