Robert Griffin III liked the fact that Cam Newton stood his ground and defended himself despite being ganged up in a recent event. However, he’s in no way promoting or encouraging violence.
At the end of the day, RGIII emphasized that violence has no room in the sport.
Robert Griffin III Reacts To Cam Newton Fight
For those who missed it, Newton went viral on Sunday after he got into a fight with a group of men during a youth competition–reportedly the We Ball Sports event in Atlanta where Under-15 and Under-18 teams played.
Videos of the incident showed Newton fighting back against at least three other men, who kept punching and tackling him. More details about the brawl have since emerged, with the two sides apparently getting heated after the trash-talking that happened during the games of their respective teams.
Newton was there for the program he co-founded, the C1N. While the men that attacked Newton was from TopShelf Performance.
Right after videos of the brawl went viral, Griffin took to social media to praise Newton for protecting himself and not running away despite facing multiple people.
“Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty with 1 O-lineman that started an NFL game and no one else recording a NFL reception, rush attempt or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one man army, so you are delulu if you thought some guys jumping him was gonna phase him. Hat didn’t even move,” Griffin wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
While Griffin showed respect to Newton for his actions, he highlighted that such incident should never happen again. Not to mention that it was at a youth event aimed at developing youngsters and the future generation of the sport.
Sure enough, talking trash and being violent is not what the event wanted to promote and encourage.
Robert Griffin Hates Cam Newton Brawl
In a follow-up tweet, Robert Griffin III expressed his hope that Cam Newton and any other person won’t have to deal with such “disrespect” in the future.
The one-time Pro Bowler shared that they have to do better as a community and change the narrative about them, and it all starts by acting properly and not letting their fists do the talking when emotions are high.
“In all seriousness, I HATE seeing this. Cam Newton nor anyone should ever be disrespected in this way. How can we rise, do better for our communities and change the narrative when we are attacking each other like this? Turning a 7 on 7 tournament into a brawl and people leave with the wrong impression of an event meant to bring people together for fun and competition. We have to be better than this. We are better than this,” Griffin added.
Newton has yet to speak out on the viral fight. Hopefully, though, we hear from him sooner rather than later.
