The NFL season is officially over and the San Francisco 49ers have already made huge moves after their Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was reported earlier in the week that the team fired their defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and are now on the hunt for a new DC for next season. Now it is being reported that former Chargers coach Brandon Staley may be in line to get the job for the Niners.
NFL Fired Coach Brandon Staley Reported To Be Next DC In San Francisco
If the 49ers fired Wilks so quickly they must have someone in mind to take over the job. Mike Florio reported earlier today that the team should be likely to bring in Staley to lead the defense next season.
“Few believe that 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks without having an idea as to the identity of his successor,” Florio said. “Some around the league think Shanahan will eventually hire former Rams defensive coordinator and Chargers head coach Brandon Staley.”
Florio also mentioned that this would only be the case if both Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel would not be interested in the position as they may get an offer before Staley.
“There’s no indication yet that Shanahan will even interview Staley,” he said. “He’s arguably the best available option at this stage of the offseason — unless Shanahan can get the godfather of the Seattle defense, Pete Carroll, is willing to take the job and if Shanahan wants him. Or unless Bill Belichick or Mike Vrabel would want the job.”
Could Bill Belichick Or Mike Vrabel Be In For The 49ers
The Niners were just plays away from holding the Lombardi trophy and there is not a big reason to change things up dramatically. They did not believe that however, as they are already looking for a new defensive coordinator for a defense that is absolutely stacked. Belichick could be just what they need if he was willing to go down in rank and be a DC again.
Mike Vrabel is the same scenario and both of these men are not only head coaches but some of the best in the business by a mile. It would be wild for either one of them to go down in rank to be the DC but it is not impossible. Either way, if both of them decline that offer than it would not be surprising to see Staley in for the 49ers.

After all the Pressure these Coaches have. You up and Fire the Man. If 49′ ers had their act together. They would have won. Its always in the last 2 minutes that an amazing event occurs. Both Teams have great players. But only one is the Victory
