The NFL season came to an end with a Super Bowl for the books, but there was no hand shake between the two coached following the Kansas City Chiefs victory over the San Francisco 49ers. This image above is from their precious Super Bowl matchup and the coaches did not have an end game hand shake this time around. Now, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed why the two legendary coaches did not meet after the game for the usual hand shake.
Kyle Shanahan Reveals Why He Did Not Shake Andy Reid’s Hand
Kyle revealed to the media why we did not see the coaches meet at the end of the game and the reason is a lot more practical than there being any bad blood between the coaches as some may have thought.
“We talked on Monday. When we played each other last time, it took about 25 minutes to shake his hand,” Shanahan said, via CBS Sports. “So, we both talked on Monday that regardless of who won, I mean I love Andy, I’m tight with Andy, but we talked both of us are going to do that because it’s too hard to get to each other after these Super Bowls.”
This statement should clear up any potential animosity that was thought of to exist between the coaches. They clearly respect one another and had been in communication before the game. It was just about the madness that occurs on the field following the Super Bowl and the coaches did not want to waste so much time just trying to find one another after the game to shake hands.
Andy Reid Shows Clear Respect To Kyle Shanahan
Andy Reid made sure to show Shanahan respect before and after the game as Reid holds Shanahan in very high regard. When Reid was asked about Shanahan’s decision to take the ball to start over time he did not think it was as controversial as others did.
“Ours ended up being the right one,” Reid said. “That easily could have gone the other way. That’s what we felt was the right thing to do. I’m never going to question Kyle because he’s brilliant. That was just something that we chose through out studies. We felt that was important.”
Right now the betting favorites to return to this very game next year are Shanahan and Reid’s team which would just be amazing. But both of these teams should find themselves in a this big game again and maybe against each other.
