The New York Giants and Saquon Barkley started the offseason on a rocky note. The team could not agree to a long term deal with the star running back and ended up bringing him back on a one-year deal. While this solves this year, many are wondering whether the bridge has been burned for Barkley. In a recent interview, the star running back made a bold statement on his future with the Giants.
New York Giants Saquon Barkley On Future With Team
Barkley was asked by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post what his plans were for the future and if he still wanted to be a Giant for life.
“Oh, yeah. I don’t think that really changed. They know how I feel. I’m not really too focused on that right now.”
Despite being upset about not getting a huge contract, Barkley is still hoping that it works out to stay. This was the team that drafted him and he wants to be a franchise legend. In this day and age that is rare.
Focused On The Season
Even though he was asked about the future, Barkley made it clear that he is focused on this season.
“Once I made the decision I was going to show up and I was going to be there and do my job, you got to put all that aside. “Got to be mature about it.”
“We made a decision; you got to put it to the side; you got a job to take care of. I’m here, and I’m ready for the season.”
If there was any worry this would affect his season, Barkley is dashing those worries. In fact, Barkley has a lot to play for now as he has to prove that he deserves a long-term deal.
Saquon Barkley and the Giants are out to prove that last year was no fluke. People have been quick to write off the Giants after they brought back Daniel Jones on a big deal. However, they have quietly gotten better at a lot of positions and could surprise some people in 2023.
