The New York Giants are expecting big things out of second-year player Kayvon Thibodeaux. After a great rookie campaign, the hope is that he can make a leap and become one of the truly dominant forces off the edge. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale issued a challenge to Thibodeaux after their first preseason game.
New York Giants Kayvon Thibodeaux Given Challenge
Martindale talked about how he wants the edge rusher to be at the top of his game on the field and in the locker room.
“I thought that in Detroit, on Tuesday and Wednesday, I think he caused two fumbles and recovered two fumbles. I expect him to be at the top of everything, and so do we. I’ve talked to him about his practice. I think that he heard me clearly.
“I talked to him in front of the entire defense. So, Kayvon is going to be fine, first of all. Like I said, he caused two fumbles, and he recovered two fumbles. In the two days, we had, like, eight takeaways against, what were they, a top-five offense last year, which gave us confidence in ourselves and the way we competed there.”
On top of everything. Martindale wants Thibodeaux to be in the same class as Myles Garrett and TJ Watt. If the Giants have a special player like that on their hands, it will help their defense immensely.
Regression Incoming From The Team?
Thibodeaux should have a dominant season. The Giants might be in a tough spot. They play one of the league’s hardest schedules. Having to play the Eagles and Cowboys twice is not great. They also have to play everyone from the AFC East which includes three teams that all have a legit shot at a Super Bowl. The road to get back to the playoffs is going to be a tough one. Daniel Jones will have to show he is worth the big contract he was given in the offseason and hopefully, some of the young players step up.
If there is one player the New York Giants can be confident in it is Kayvon Thibodeaux. While there are many questions around the team, everyone seems to agree that Thibodeaux is something special.
