The New England Patriots have been very bust this off season with first year head coach Jerod Mayo. The team has the second most cap space in the NFL and now they have cut another solid player to free up more space as free agency is now in full swing. The team cut special teams star Chris Board on Monday. This is a player that played every game of the 2023 season and was a standout special teamer in the NFL.
New England Patriots Are Set To Cut Chris Board
The team traded their quarterback Mac Jones last week and they continue to make moves to free up more cap space. Cutting Board frees up close to $2 million in cap space for the Patriots which may help in signing a bigger name in free agency. NFL insider Tom Pelissero originally reported the news on Monday saying:
“The #Patriots plan to release veteran special teams standout Chris Board this week, per source. He played in all 17 games for New England last season,” he reported.
As free agency is in full swing, and many incredible players available, the Patriots sit nicely with the second most cap space in the NFL. As the team is set for a full rebuild, they will need to bringing in numerous top free agents.
New England Patriots Are In Full Rebuild Mode
The team is hitting the reset button in a major way. In just a few weeks, the team has a new head coach, traded their quarterback, and has cut numerous players to free up tons of cap space. With Mac Jones off the team, the Patriots are almost certain to draft a quarterback with their number 3 overall pick.
There are many incredible free agents still available, and this team will have to work hard to bring in a few solid players. If they are going to have a rookie at quarterback next season, they will have to bring in some great talent to help their rookie’s growth. Some of the best running backs are on the market as well as a few solid receivers. This team will need to continue to make tons of moves and they have the cap space to do it.
