The NFL offseason is in full swing now, and the Mac Jones era with the New England Patriots is officially over. Mac had a troubling last couple years with the team, and as the Patriot sit with the number 3 overall pick, it was time to get a new guy under center. The team traded Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and everyone has the same reaction to the Patriots only getting a 6th round pick in return for a first round quarterback.
NFL Trade Has Fans Mocking The New England Patriots
ESPN and NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news that the team is sending Jones to Jaguars for a 6th round pick.
“Trade: Patriots are finalizing a deal to send QB Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, sources tell ESPN. The trade cannot be processed until the new league year begins Wednesday and he passes a physical. The two sides were discussing a 6th-round pick, per sources. Jones was born in Jacksonville; now he has the chance to go home,” he reported on Sunday morning.
The Patriots probably wanted to get more, but the Jaguars were the only team that even made an offer for the former first round pick. It is quite surprising that Trey Lance, who did not show any signs of success, was traded for a 4th rounder, while Mac barely had any type of trade market.
NFL Fans Trash The New England Patriots
Many NFL fans took to social media to trash the team for ruining Jones. The trade now shows he is a bust for a first round selection, and fans made sure to highlight that fact. Here are some of the best fan reactions to the trade:
“Traded for a 6th round pick?!?! 😂 @stoolpresidente told me this guy was winning AT LEAST 4 Super Bowls for the Pats!” one fan wrote.
“lol a 6th round pick,” one fan added.
“THE MAC JONES ERA IS FINALLY OVER,” one fan added.
“spend a 1st, 3 years later get a 6th that’s arbitrage baby,” one fan added.
“The Patriots got a 6th for Mac Jones, the Niners got a 4th for Trey Lance we officially won the 2021 draft,” one fan added.
This trade furthers the report earlier last week that the Patriots are almost certain to draft a quarterback with their 3rd overall pick.
