Week 13 of the NFL season is nearly complete. Along with that, the NFL MVP race is heating up. Who is standing out? Who is the new favorite to win NFL MVP? We will take a look at some of the top players to watch.
Dak Prescott
After the Week 13 win over the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has climbed to the top of the NFL MVP race. At the time of writing, he is the co-favorite to win the award along with someone we will talk about below. So, why is Dak on the rise?
The biggest argument for Dak Prescott is that he leads the NFL in touchdown passes (26). On top of this, he has just six interceptions and 3,234 passing yards.
So, what did Prescott do in Week 13? He put up impressive numbers. In the win over the Seahawks, Prescott had 299 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and a 70.7 completion percentage.
It also helps that the Dallas Cowboys are now 9-3. Keep an eye on Dak Prescott for the NFL MVP award.
Brock Purdy
Another QB that made a statement in Week 13 is Brock Purdy. He led the San Francisco 49ers to a huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles. So, what did Purdy do to lead them to victory?
He had 314 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Purdy also did a good job protecting the football, not turning the ball over once.
Overall, Purdy has been very streaky this season. He has thrown a remarkable 14 touchdown passes and just one interception in his last four games. In his prior three games, Purdy had just three touchdown passes and five interceptions. We will have to see if Purdy continues his hot streak.
Jalen Hurts
Prior to Week 13, Jalen Hurts was the favorite to win NFL MVP. However, some people questioned if Hurts even deserved this much consideration despite the Philadelphia Eagles’ success.
Hurts has just 19 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. However, the biggest arguments for him to win NFL MVP are that he is the QB of the team with the best record in the NFL. Plus, Hurts has 12 rushing touchdowns this season.
Tyreek Hill
Finally, we have Tyreek Hill. He has much lower odds of winning the NFL MVP at the time of writing compared to our other three candidates discussed above. However, a big reason for this is he is a wide receiver rather than a quarterback.
On paper, Hill is not getting enough consideration for the NFL MVP award. Why is this? Because he has a real chance of breaking Calvin Johnson’s single-season record for most receiving yards.
Hill leads the league in receiving yards (1,481) along with touchdown receptions (12). He is nearly 300 yards above the next-highest wide receiver and two touchdowns ahead on those leaderboards. With Hill standing out so much in his position, it is worth serious consideration for the NFL MVP award.
