Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is widely considered to be one of the best pass catchers in the NFL. Prior to his trade to the Raiders, there were some that said former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers was the one who made him look as good as his numbers. Adams proved those arguments wrong last season when he put up 100 receptions, 1,516 yards, and a NFL leading 14 receiving touchdowns while playing with subpar quarterbacks.
One of those quarterbacks was Adams’ friend and college teammate Derek Carr, who was sent home by the team before the season even ended. Now, Carr is playing with the New Orleans Saints and Adams remains in Las Vegas with a disgruntled running back in Josh Jacobs and a questionable quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo.
Needless to say, there are many who think that Adams has realized that the grass is not always greener on the other side and may want out of Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams Named in Bold Trade Proposal with the Cleveland Browns (NFL)
Despite the fact that the 2023 NFL regular season begins in less than two weeks, there are still writers and fans that are proposing trades that can improve their teams. And it is not completely unheard of. After all, the San Francisco 49ers just traded 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2024 fourth round pick.
This particular trade idea, though, seems far-fetched. One Cleveland Browns writer suggests that the team could target Adams via trade if the Raiders’ season does not get off to a good start:
“At one point, Josh McDaniels was seen as the savior Cleveland needed. Now, he looks to be trying to salvage his second head coaching position with Jimmy Garoppolo taking over for Derek Carr. Adams pushed for a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders to team with Carr and could be looking for his way out if the season doesn’t start well.
“While Adams reuniting with Aaron Rodgers will be discussed, joining the Browns would give the team a much better version of DeAndre Hopkins that fans wanted this offseason. Adams is a precise, talented route runner that would create perfection in Cleveland’s passing attack.”
The problem with this trade scenario is that if the Raiders are struggling, they will want early draft picks in return for Adams if they do even consider trading him. Remember, the Packers were able to get a first and second round pick for him even though he had not signed his franchise tag and would not play for them.
One would assume that since Adams is still in his prime and is under contract through the 2026 season, the Raiders could garner even more picks for him. This all but disqualifies the Browns, who have just two picks in the first four rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Raiders would probably ask for both of those picks and their 2025 first round pick if the Browns seriously considered trading for Adams.
As dominant as the Browns’ wide receiver room would be with Adams, mortgaging that much of the future is probably not worth it.
