The New York Jets are probably the most talked about team in the NFL this year. Of course, being on Hard Knocks helps, but having Aaron Rodgers as your starting quarterback doesn’t hurt either. After 15 years as the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers (18 seasons overall), Rodgers was traded to the Jets for a first round pick swap, a 2023 second round pick, and a conditional 2024 second round pick.
Since coming to New York, Rodgers has been a noticeably different person and teammate than he was during his last few years in Green Bay. Whereas he would not show up to work with the Packers until training camp began, Rodgers was present at all Jets’ offseason activities.
He has also been very complimentary of this new teammates. In particular, he compared wide receiver Garrett Wilson to his former number one wide receiver Davante Adams on multiple occasions. Most recently, he compared running back Breece Hall to another Packers legend who Rodgers played with early in his career.

Fans outside of Green Bay may be surprised to learn that the Packers’ all-time leading rusher is not Hall of Famer Paul Hornung, not Hall of Famer Jim Taylor, but four-time Pro Bowler Ahman Green. Of Green’s 9,205 career rushing yards, 8,322 of them came in a Packers’ uniform.
His first stint in Green Bay lasted from 2000-2006, so he was there when the Packers decided to draft Aaron Rodgers with their first round pick in 2005. However, he missed the transition from Brett Favre to Rodgers as he played for the Houston Texans from 2007-2008. In 2009, he returned to Green Bay for his final season, a memorable one in which he passed the aforementioned Taylor as the franchise’s all-time leading rusher.
Of course, Rodgers got to see Green play up close and personal, in 2005 and 2006 from the bench and in 2009 as the team’s starting quarterback. Yesterday, Rodgers told reporters that one of his teammates, second-year running back Breece Hall, reminds him of the Packers’ Hall of Famer:
“[Hall’s] just a different speed … he hit 21 miles per hour and it just looked like he was cruising. We had a guy in Green Bay who had a similar running style .. he was super efficient, Ahman Green. When he was running, nobody ever really caught him and it didn’t look like he was going that fast. When you’re watching Breece, it might not look like he’s going that fast but nobody catches him.”
That’s fairly high praise for such a young players like Hall. However, the comparison should be wonderful news for Jets fans, as Hall is coming back from a torn ACL that he suffered during a promising rookie season.
If Hall is able to play like Ahman Green, who in 2003 had 1,883 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, the Jets’ backfield of Hall and Dalvin Cook will be the best in the NFL.
