The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up a big divisional win against the Colts on Sunday. It wasn’t all good, however. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence went out of the game with a knee injury. While it does not seem to be serious, the Jaguars play again on Thursday night making it a quick turnaround. Lawrence said today that he remains “optimistic” that he will play in week 7 against the Saints.
Jacksonville Jaguars Trevor Lawrence Optimistic About Playing
Lawrence was at practice today albeit with a knee brace on. He is remaining optimistic but admitted that it will be a game-time call. “I’ve been fortunate to not have any serious injuries… but I pride myself on being a guy who plays; plays through injury, pain whatever it is,” Lawrence said about his knee. He wants to be out there but does have to consider his long-term health as well. If this game was on Sunday it would be different but the quick turnaround could make the team nervous about trotting Lawrence out there.
Should He Play?
I expect the Jaguars to err on the side of caution. While the Houston Texans are right behind the Jaguars in the division, overall the team has an easier path to the playoffs than some of the rest of the AFC. While picking up this win against the Saints would be great, it is not worth it if Lawrence ends up more hurt. A knee sprain is not serious but it would still be something he would have to deal with throughout the game. Still, every game is important in the NFL and if the team feels good about it, it seems that Lawrence is not going to be the one to sit himself out.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to make a decision on Thursday night with Trevor Lawrence. If he cannot go, it will be an uphill climb to pick up a win before the mini-bye.
