We now move into the final stretch of our NFL mock draft. With no trades, and the draft order not finalized yet, this is all speculation but I thought that giving fans at least an idea of who is on the board they could make their own assumptions. All of that being said, let’s finish this off!
Minnesota Vikings- DL Jared Verse (FSU)
- While it is surprising that Verse dropped this far, Vikings fans should have nothing to worry about. His past couple years at FSU he has developed into a very efficient pass rusher. He has incredible bend on the edge and his strength his very underrated. His hand use is possibly his most notable strength. My favorite thing about him is his motor. He brings a certain energy from snap to whistle on every single snap.
Indianapolis Colts- WR Emeka Egbuka
- We will be seeing two Ohio State wide receivers taken in the first round as Emeka Egbuka will go to Indy. First thing that jumps off the screen is his speed. He runs a 4.42 40-yard dash, easily one of the fastest players in the class. He routes are incredibly smooth and incredible acceleration to get to top speed and immediately stretch the field. He makes an excellent slot receiver to pair with Michael Pittman Jr.
Pittsburgh Steelers- CB Terrion Arnold (Alabama)
- Joey Porter Jr. is quickly establishing himself as the best corner on the Steelers, on the other side they have an old Patrick Peterson who is on his way out of the league. Terrion Arnold would be an excellent replacement. His long arms and fluid hips make his downfield play top tier. When you watch him on tape, you will see how instinctive he is and how well he reads round and anticipates throws.
Houston Texans- DL J.T. Tuimoloau (Ohio State)
- I think Houston’s offense is fine….for now. What I mean is they don’t really need to address their issues in the draft. They drafted star pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. last season, just like Anderson, J.T. is a pure pass rusher. He is exceptional against the run, he plays with a low pad level and he is very violent with his hands at the point of attack. One downside with him is that he sometimes struggles to shed block effectively, but hopefully with coaching and time to adjust he can hone that skill. He would be a great rotational piece for this defense.
Kansas City Chiefs- WR Xavier Lagette (South Carolina)
- Despite their solid record, the Kansas City offense has been inconsistent at best. They lead the league in drops from receivers and they need someone who has sure hands. That is why Xavier Lagette is the perfect pick for the Chiefs. He has the ability to make the difficult catches in traffic, he has incredibly strong hands and hits top speed incredibly fast. Kansas City needs someone they can rely on besides Travis Kelce, and Lagette could be that for this dynamic offense.
Jacksonville Jaguars- DB Javon Bullard (Georgia)
- Easily one of my favorite players in the draft, Bullard posses all the skills to be a very solid safety in the NFL. He is one of the best DB’s in zone coverage, he anticipates routes better than most corners. The one knock is that he gives up the big play way too much, but he does have the speed to make up for it. His size is a little concerning but nothing that really should hinder his growth in the league.
Dallas Cowboys- CB Nate Wiggins (Clemson)
- With Dallas most likely losing Stephon Gilmore to free agency or retirement, they will be looking for a corner. I think Nate Wiggins fits perfectly in the Dallas scheme. He has great size and long arms with powerful hands. Fluid in coverage and can transition and close on the ball very fast. I think he plays his best in the slot due to his speed and physicality.
Detroit Lions- DL Brian Trice (Washington)
- The one thing that sticks out to me with Trice is his relentless motor. He is an aggressive violent tackler and takes on blockers well. He is very versatile as well, he can drop into coverage and has great awareness out in space. With Aiden Hutchinson on the opposite side, they will both command attention so that can take the pressure off of Hutchinson.
San Francisco 49ers-CB Cooper DeJean (Iowa)
- Coming from one of the best defensive units in college football, DeJean will be plugged into one of the best defensive systems you can ask for. While he is not the best tackler he makes up for it with his coverage ability. He closes fast on receivers and his very very aggressive in the run game. I don’t see him being a day 1 starter but with the right coaching, he could end up being a very solid corner.
Baltimore Ravens- WR Xavier Worthy (Texas)
- When you think of lightning in a bottle, Xavier Worthy should be the first player that comes to mind. He is a natural playmaker. If you give him any sort of room, he will beat you and not look back. He runs a sub 4.5 40-yard dash and his route running allows him to be open a very high percentage of time. I think he would be a steal this late in the draft and could easily work his way to the #1 receiver for this Ravens team.
Miami Dolphins- TE Ja’Tavion Sanders (Texas)
- There aren’t a lot of holes on this Miami offense. The one glaring one to me is the tight end position. In this scheme being a blocking tight end, Sanders is not the best blocker in the world, but that can be coached. He is incredibly elusive in space and a natural playmaker. He’s a possession receiving tight end and just another weapon they could add to this dynamic offense.
Philadelphia Eagles- S Kamren Kinchens (Miami FL)
- The secondary for the Eagles is probably the most glaring issue with this team. They don’t have many faults but they could easily get an upgrade with Kinchens rounding out the first round. He is a hard hitting safety and plays really well against the run. He tends to be a little too aggressive and that could get him into trouble when he is in man coverage and gives them a little bit of a cushion.
