New York Jets: Robert Saleh, Aaron Rodgers, and the rest of the Jets offense has certainly faced some adversity this season. Arguably the biggest injury of the season (so far) has been Rodgers’ torn Achilles Tendon just four offensive plays into the season.
Rumors continue to swirl around an unbelievable Rodgers return from a surgery that usually takes 10 to 14 months to heal, in a fraction of that time. In the midst of those rumors, head coach Robert Saleh made an announcement about his MVP quarterback’s return.
New York Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh Makes Emphatic Statement Regarding The Return of Aaron Rodgers
The idea once sounded ridiculous (and still does, to an extent), but rumblings suggest Rodgers could return by December. Rodgers’ return could save the Jets (4-5) season if New York is able to tread water for a month or so.
That’s the goal, at least. Coach Robert Saleh, however, won’t be making the decision. A final decision on his status will be left up to Rodgers, he told reporters Wednesday:
“Aaron’s a big boy, a grown man, and no one’s going to know Aaron’s body like Aaron knows his body,” Saleh said. “And if he feels, after all the doctors clear him — and I’m sure there’s a million of them, I have no idea on that stuff — but if Aaron says he wants to play, he’s going to play.”
“The pressure to keep the season afloat is just to keep it afloat,” Saleh said about the Jets attempting to remain in postseason contention until Rodgers can return atop the depth chart in place of temporary starter Zach Wilson. “The pressure to go to the playoffs is always pressure. It’s not for any one individual. It’s not for any possibility. It’s for competitors who want to win football games, and I think Aaron’s just the icing.”
Over the past nine games, the Jets have scored eight offensive touchdowns, but zero over the past 11 quarters. Following Sunday’s 16-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson revealed during a radio interview on Tuesday that he and others attended a players-only meeting to ensure that everyone understood where we were and how we could get out of this rut.
It will be interesting to see how the Jets’ season plays out as they continue to hope for an improbable Aaron Rodgers return.
