The New York Jets had one significant need heading into the 2024 NFL Free Agency period and that was the offensive line. With General Manager Joe Douglas understanding the issue, he has already signed left guard John Simpson but that was not enough. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens are trading away starting right tackle Morgan Moses and the 134th pick in the 2024 NFL draft to the New York Jets in exchange for the 112th and 218th pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
This move brings a former Jet back to Gang Green as Morgan Moses was with the Jets in 2021 before playing with the Ravens for the previous two seasons. This gives the Jets an improved offensive line as right now, they have a projected offensive line consisting of John Simpson, Joe Tippman, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Morgan Moses.
Moses has been a solid right tackle as he has an 84.6 PFF grade since 2020 and his 8.4 run-blocking grade since 2020 is sixth among all offensive tackles. With the 10th pick in the NFL draft as well as some free agents available to fill the left tackle void, the Jets have significantly improved their offensive line over the previous 48 hours.
What should the New York Jets do with their left tackle?
The New York Jets are in a win-now mode and have a few more holes to fill. Adding a veteran left tackle could be a great sign for things to come. With the obvious connection to free agent David Bakhtiari, they can do that but they also can be a player with the 10th-overall pick at improving Rodgers’ blind side.
The Jets seemingly have built a better offensive line throughout the offseason already and could use the money on other areas of need if they draft a left tackle. Getting a second wide receiver is going to be important and whether they target someone in a wide receiver-heavy draft or wait to see if any quality players are cut ahead of the 4 p.m. ET deadline for cap space, there are options.
While people have complained about Joe Douglas’ ability to build an offensive line, he has definitely done well at improving 40% of the group so far this offseason.
