REPORT: The New York Jets Revealed an Encouraging Injury Update Regarding their Former 1st-Round Pick

The New York Jets started training camp Wednesday at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. Thursday marks the first of nine practices that are open to the public. The other eight days of open practice include Saturday, July 27; Tuesday, July 30; Saturday, August 3; Wednesday, August 7; Thursday, August 8; Tuesday, August 13; Tuesday, August 20; and Wednesday, August 21.

The Jets spent the offseason trying to improve an offensive line that struggled last season. They hope Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses can stay healthy and protect Aaron Rodgers. They will be without their former 1st-round pick for the time being.

Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a torn Achilles in their 31-21 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 5. The Jets placed him on injured reserve, and he missed the rest of the season. His injury negatively impacted their offensive line, and for the second consecutive season, he suffered a season-ending injury playing right tackle.

He isn’t quite ready, but there’s hope.

Alijah Vera-Tucker and Morgan Moses are close to returning to practice, and Robert Saleh hopes they will be available next week.

“This acclimation period we are kind of acclimating them back in, so we expect them to be in the team drills pretty soon,” Robert Saleh said.

Who filled in for AVT?

Wes Schweitzer has filled in at RG while AVT recovers. He enters his second season with the Jets. He was limited to six games and two starts at right guard due to a lingering injury.

Schweitzer suffered a calf injury in Week 8, and the Jets placed him on injured reserve. He missed the next four games. He returned in Week 13, but the Jets placed him back on injured reserve because he reinjured his calf.
