The New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals played last night for Sunday night football and let me tell you, what a boring game it was... the game started pretty exciting with Joe Burrow running down the field for a 47-yard touchdown in the Bengal’s opening drive, then after that, nothing. The next score didn’t come until the third quarter with a Tyrone Tracy Jr touchdown that tied the game for the New York Giants. The Giants offense just struggled to get anything going all game, and the Bengals offense did just enough to edge out with the win.
After a late third-quarter field goal by Evan McPherson, the score was 10-7 going into the fourth quarter. Not much action until Daniel Jones attempted to bring the Giants downfield with eight minutes left, but failed and gave the ball back to the Bengals who took it downfield and scored another rushing touchdown, this time from Chase Brown breaking through defenders making it 17-7. It was all over from there as the Giants attempted a field goal that Greg Joseph eventually missed ending the ball game.
New York Giants: What Went Wrong?
The defense successfully held it together for most of the game but didn’t receive any help at all from their offense throughout the game. Daniel Jones completed 22 of 41 passes for 205 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He led the team in rushing with 56 yards on 11 carries, and the only touchdown came from rookie running back Tyrone Tracy scoring his first NFL touchdown at the one-yard line with almost six minutes left in the third quarter. Tyrone Tracy and Darius Slayton caught a team-high six passes for 57 yards.
The Giants offense just struggled throughout the game to get anything going, on the ground, or in the air. Even when the Giant’s defense presented them with opportunities by forcing fumbles and getting stops. The Giants completely wasted an amazing defensive game that involved a couple of mistakes, but they made up for it. The Giant defense put together a promising effort, especially without Kayvon Thibodeaux they just couldn’t get enough going on offense.
What’s Going On With Quarterback Daniel Jones? Is It Time For A Change?
It’s no secret that quarterback Daniel Jones has been struggling so far this year, unable to get any spark going in this offense. Maybe it’s time the Giants make a change and sub in backup quarterback Drew Lock. We’ve seen glimpses of his game and Drew has the experience, he’s also mentioned that he’s ready for the role whenever the team needs him. Without Malik Naber, who hopefully will be back next Sunday depending on how his progress in concussion protocol plays out.
The Giants are not getting the level of play from their quarterback that they would like, and that’s not easy for the Giants or Giants fans to embrace. There are so many times the quarterback can be in a position to change the narrative and deliver, and it’s been a while since Jones had that happen. With every passing week, the Giants continue to miss opportunities to win games and turn this season around, but it’s becoming more and more difficult as the season goes on.
