Green Bay Packers: Mason Crosby Finds a New Job Amidst Team’s Kicker Struggles

The Green Bay Packers have one of the best offenses and defenses in the NFL so far this season. Their offense, led by starting quarterback Jordan Love, rank fourth in the league with 400.8 yards per game. They also rank eighth in scoring, averaging 27.0 points per game.

Defensively, they rank just 18th in yards allowed per game (338.7), but ninth in points allowed per game (20.2). The Packers also have the most takeaways in the NFL (17).

One area that continues to be a major concern, though, is special teams, particularly the kicker position.

Last season, former Packers kicker Anders Carlson led the NFL in missed kicks. He made 81.8% of his field goals, but only 87.5% of his extra points.

Carlson also led the league in missed kicks last season, an issue spotlighted by the fact that Green Bay fell to the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in the NFL Divisional Round of the Playoffs, a game that saw their young kicker miss yet another field goal.

Because of Carlson’s struggles last season, the Packers made the decision to bring in former Minnesota Vikings kicker Greg Joseph to compete for their starting job. Both kickers, however, struggled in training camp and preseason games. However, when the initial 53-man roster was announced, Joseph was named the kicker and Carlson was released.

A day later, though, Joseph was released too when the team claimed Brayden Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans.

Unfortunately for the Packers, their new rookie kicker has not been much of an improvement. While he has made all of his extra point attempts, he has also missed five field goals, which leads the league. His 70.6% field goal percentage ranks last in the NFL.

Since the 2023 preseason, many fans have called on the organization to bring Mason Crosby back. However, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer appears to have found himself a new job already.

Earlier on Monday, it was announced that a Milwaukee sports radio station, AM 1250 The Fan, has hired Crosby to host his own sports talk show.

New adventure starts today! Come listen and engage weekdays from 9-11 am on @thefanmilwaukee with @ThunderMKE and I covering all things Wisconsin sports. #sportstalk #packers pic.twitter.com/XwTNMQJcRa

As one can see, Crosby will be on the air on weekdays from 9-11 AM. Not only will he be covering the Packers, but everything that involves Wisconsin sports.

While this is a great move for Crosby and keeps him connected with a fanbase that adores him, it also means those fans will have to give up their hope that he might be brought back to solve the team’s kicker problem.
