The New York Giants had a disappointing season in 2023. With a 6-11 record, it led to reported drama in the locker room. As a result, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale parted ways with the organization.
Now, the Giants have the task of replacing Martindale. There appears to be one official interview request aiming to do just that.
New York Giants Request Interview With Derrick Ansley
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New York Giants have requested an interview with Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley. This is notable for two reasons. The first is that it gives us a better idea of who the Giants want to hire to replace Martindale.
The second reason is that Ansley had to take on a larger role with the Chargers unexpectedly. That is because head coach Brandon Staley was fired after the 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Once Staley was fired, Ansley called the plays for the Chargers’ defense.
Los Angeles Chargers With Derrick Ansley
So, how did the Chargers do under Ansley’s leadership? In the three games he called the plays, Los Angeles did surprisingly well. The Chargers allowed just 53 combined points in those three games. That must have been enough for the Giants to feel that they see potential in Ansley.
