New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen spoke to the media on Tuesday morning at the NFL Combine about the future of quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones last offseason was given a four-year $160 million extension and he ended the 2023 season in Week 9 with a Torn ACL.
Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor were the quarterbacks who started games at the end of the season for the Giants. With the New York Giants drafting sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, it is possible they stay put or move up to get one of the three top quarterbacks in this draft.
Schoen shot down the idea to NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano about drafting a quarterback by saying:
“I have faith in Daniel as our starting quarterback.”
Jones still has three years remaining on his quarterback and it is understandable why Schoen has to say this to the media. They don’t want to throw him under the bus and also give away their potential plans for the 2024 NFL Draft because there are a lot of options for what the New York Giants can do.
Last season for the Giants, Jones completed 67.5% of his passes for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also rushed for 206 yards on 40 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 5.2 yards per carry.
New York Giants Fans on Twitter React to Joe Schoen’s Comments About Daniel Jones
There have been many times on Twitter over the past few years about the Daniel Jones lovers and the haters. The lovers of Jones love what Joe Schoen said and the haters hate what he had to tell the media. Schoen can’t give away his hand during this time of the season.
Some of the fans had to say about this on Twitter when talking about Jones also:
Joe Schoen is saying what he has to say regarding the faith he still has in Daniel Jones.
I don’t believe that takes QB out of the mix at No. 6. At all. What is he supposed to say publicly? Jones is on the team for 2024 + he gave him that contract a year ago. #NYGiants pic.twitter.com/XDETLiDAd5

“I have faith in Daniel [Jones] as our starting quarterback”
I put zero stock into Joe Schoen saying this today.
Of course he’s going to say this. He’d be a fool to reveal the #Giants’ draft plans.
Excited to see which top QB prospects they interview.

The biggest question is going to be how the New York Giants address the quarterback position. Drafting a rookie quarterback would save Joe Schoen’s and Brian Daboll’s jobs for at least another season no matter what. What they can’t do is double down on Daniel Jones being the starting quarterback in 2024 because then their jobs will be in jeopardy.
