Darius Slayton has been a reliable wide receiver for the New York Giants, leading the team in receiving in four of his first five seasons in the league.
Slayton is in the final year of his 2-year, $12 million contract and has a $2.5 million base salary and an $8.15 million cap hit for the 2024 season, per Spotrac. He currently ranks 33rd in cap hits among wide receivers for the 2024 season, per Over The Cap.
He is not satisfied with his contract and wants his contract adjusted. He protested his contract by skipping OTAs.

Since Slayton currently ranks 33rd in cap hits among wide receivers for the 2024 season, he skipped voluntary offseason workouts and the start of OTAs.
He ended his holdout on Tuesday, May 28, as the Giants adjusted his contract.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Giants adjusted Slayton’s contract by adding an extra $650,000 in incentives to his contract.
“Details on this: Darius Slayton previously had $1.5M available in incentives, he now has $2.15M in incentives available.
“He has a chance to earn an extra $650K than his prior max compensation for 2024.”
Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 has the details on Slayton’s adjusted contract.
“#Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton renegotiated deal this week, reducing his 2024 cap number from $8.15M to $7.75M and reducing his base salary from $2.7M to $2.5M, per a league source. Deal pays $6M overall 2024 including $2.4M roster bonus, up to $750K in per game active roster bonuses, $350K workout bonus @KPRC2.”

“I’m satisfied. We got done what we needed to get done and just looking forward to playing ball,” Slayton said. “We just adjusted my contract this year a little bit. Just tried to make it a little bit more lucrative. Business is business and I’m here.
“I think anybody [wants guaranteed money],” Slayton said. “But at the end of the day, playing the game I love, the game I dreamed about playing as a kid. Happy to be back with my teammates and ready to go.”
