New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton ended his holdout on Tuesday when he reported back to OTAs. He did not report to voluntary workouts before the NFL Draft took place. Slayton is entering the final year of his contract and is looking for a payday.
Slayton a season ago with the Giants caught 50 passes for 770 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 15.4 yards per reception. Since being a fifth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft from Auburn, he has caught 220 passes for 3,324 yards receiving and 19 touchdowns. Darius Slayton has averaged 15.1 yards per reception in those years.

He is 27 years old and will be entering his sixth NFL season. Slayton came into the NFL at the same time quarterback Daniel Jones did. It will be interesting to see what kind of chemistry they will both have in 2024.
He wants to get paid because he has been the number-one wide receiver in this offense throughout the past few seasons. However, will general manager Joe Schoen want to give him a hefty contract extension, or will have to make another decision about him?
New York Giants Wide Receiver Darius Slayton Could Be a Trade Piece

With Slayton being in the final year of his rookie contract, Slayton could be a player that the Giants trade at the deadline if they are out of contention. It would be better for Schoen to get a draft pick in return for Slayton if he doesn’t want to re-sign him either now or after the 2024 season. New York just drafted Malik Nabers sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft from LSU and he is on a rookie contract.
They also have Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt on rookie deals at the wide receiver position. On the current depth chart, Slayton will be on the first team along with Nabers and Robinson. If Darius Slayton excels as a number two wide receiver for the first several weeks, they could get a decent return for him.
Slayton is a very good number two wide receiver and he is not meant to be a number one wide receiver. Darius Slayton has led this football team in receiving yards for the past four of five seasons. This is why adding Malik Nabers to this offense is very important.

Slayton was dealing with some thumb injury issues toward the end of the 2023 season. The only way that he is not playing for the Giants this season is if he is sidelined due to injury.
