The New York Giants, who finished the season with a 6-11 record dealt with multiple key injuries on both sides of the ball. One of those injuries was to starting quarterback Daniel Jones, who tore his ACL in Week 9 versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jones had surgery on his knee and missed the rest of the season for New York. Before the injury, Jones and the Giants were struggling to move the ball on offense. He threw for 909 yards and 2 touchdowns in 6 games played while throwing 6 interceptions. The Giants had a 1-5 record with Jones under center this season.
Daniel Jones Set as Starter for New York Giants 2024 Training Camp
Despite the rough start to the season and his knee injury that sidelined him for the rest of 2023, General Manager Joe Schoen told reporters last week that Jones will head into training camp as the starting quarterback.
Jones was selected 6th overall in the 2019 draft by New York and has had mixed success since his arrival. The Giants made their first playoff appearance in 6 years last season with Jones under center and the offense had expectations to progress heading into 2023. Those expectations were not met and New York missed the playoffs.

According to Bleacher Report’s NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants staff and players still support Jones as the starting quarterback next season despite his struggles and injuries in 2023.
“I can tell you that the Giants still believe in Daniel Jones. The players still do. There’s a lot of guys in that locker room that believe Daniel Jones should be the guy moving forward… What I have been told is that not only does the staff and Brian Daboll believe in Daniel Jones, (Mike) Kafka and the players do as well.”
Despite New York’s struggles in 2023, Head Coach Brain Daboll and the Giants organization seem to believe that they can make it back to where they once were with Jones under center. New York made the playoffs last season with a 9-7-1 record and won a playoff game versus the Minnesota Vikings with a score of 31-24.
Giants Have Not Ruled Out Drafting a Quarterback for 2024 Season
Even though Jones seems to have the full support of the Giants organization according to Schultz’s report, Schoen and the front office have not ruled out drafting a quarterback considering the number of options there are in the 2024 class.
Including Caleb Williams, who will most likely be selected number one overall, there are at least 6 quarterbacks that are currently projected to be taken in the first 2 rounds. If Schoen and the Giants all of a sudden don’t feel as confident in Jones come April, selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft is an option moving forward.
