The New York Giants would love to bring running back Saquon Barkley back for next season, but WFAN’s Boomer Esiason thinks that Barkley needs to pursue his career elsewhere. Barkley has been with the Giants since the 2018 season.
General manager Joe Schoen mentioned earlier this week at the NFL combine that using the franchise tag for the second straight year on him isn’t out of the question by any means. Would Barkley want to go back to the Giants on the tag or would he want to go to a team that would give him more money or a chance to win a Super Bowl?
Boomer Esiason said on WFAN on Wednesday about Barkley returning to the Meadowlands next season by saying:
“He may love it around here, he may love playing for the Giants. But if somebody calls, like the Chargers or Chiefs call…it’s like ‘You know what? Enough of the losing, enough of the crap, I’ll go play on a grass field if they have a grass field. I think the guy deserves to win some games.”
The ironic thing is that just two years ago the Giants went 9-7-1 and went to the NFC Divisional Round before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley played a huge part of that season for the New York Giants.
His partner Gio agreed with what Boomer had to say about Barkley by adding:
“He is one of those guys who would absolutely love to win.”
The Los Angeles Chargers Makes the Most Sense if Saquon Barkley Left the New York Giants
Los Angeles is moving off of Austin Ekeler in the backfield and they are looking to upgrade at that position. New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh loves Saquon Barkley and it is quite possible Barkley would go to the west coast.
The Chargers have the talent to win and he would be getting a quarterback that is wayt more talented than Daniel Jones with Justin Herbert. Herbert is a top-five quarterback in the NFL and Barkley would be a three-down running back for Los Angeles.
They do have some cap issues however and that is something that will need to be figured out. The Kansas City Chiefs the Dallas Cowboys, and the Baltimore Ravens could be three of the other teams he lands with in NFL free agency if the Giants did not bring him back.
New York is a team that needs Barkley back, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they didn’t bring him back either. There will be a nice big market for him if the Giants don’t re-sign him.
