The New England Patriots just got some great news from a division rival. Buffalo Bills star receiver, Stefon Diggs, was traded to the Houston Texans. This is incredibly exciting for a rebuilding Patriots team that has struggled to stop the Bills over the last few seasons. With the departure of Diggs, New England may have an even better chance at being competitive in their own division in 2024, especially with their incredibly talented defense. All over New England, fans are already looking forward to the NFL Draft, to see how the Patriots can make some moves to pass their rival, the Buffalo Bills.
Stefon Diggs is one of the best route runners in the NFL and is incredibly difficult to contain. The Patriots have had serious issues trying to stop a very high-powered Bills offense recently. However, with the loss of not only Stefon Diggs but Gabe Davis as well, fans could see a huge shift in the AFC East. The Dolphins are known for disappearing in big moments, Aaron Rodgers coming off a major injury, and now the Bills with no true weapons, New England may be in a better position than most people realize. If New England hits on multiple Draft picks, the Foxborough Faithful could see a faster rebuild than they were expecting.
If New England truly wishes to capitalize on this move, they could do whatever it takes to get themselves more weapons on the offensive side of the ball. By doing this, they will pair a much better offense with their already high-powered defense. This could result in a Patriots team that nobody was expecting. A team that nobody wants to play, a team that will go to war every time the ball is snapped, and a team that has an unquenchable thirst to prove themselves.
Could the Patriots Shock the NFL in a Depleted AFC East?
How much of an impact could Diggs leaving Buffalo have on the AFC East? Could we see Josh Allen’s performance drop off tremendously? If the Bills look like a completely different team in 2024, it is more than likely that they will need some time to build chemistry and get on track to winning. This is perfect for a young team like the Patriots. Now that the king of the division, Buffalo, is looking to the future and rebuilding their offense, New England could strike while the NFL overlooks them. This would be a great way for Jerod Mayo to start his head coaching career. Leading a team that nobody expects to be relevant, and showing the NFL world why you can never count out the greatest organization of all time.
