Today, all eyes are on the New England Patriots. That is because, earlier this morning, reports came out that head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots were going to part ways. Shortly after those reports came out, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick held a press conference to discuss the matter. In this press conference, they revealed some critical information.
New England Patriots and Bill Belichick Mutually Part Ways
During the press conference, Belichick announced that he was going to step aside and that his time with the Patriots was over. Kraft followed this with the following quote:
“We agreed to part ways mutually and amicably.” -Robert Kraft
Looking Back on Greatness
The press conference revealed the mutual respect the two had for each other. Publicly, there did not appear to be hard feelings, as the two embraced with a handshake and a pat on the shoulder during the press conference. Both men seemed proud and emotional about the accomplishments they achieved together.
Kraft mentioned that no one outside the organization seemed to expect the kind of greatness this organization produced for more than two decades. He summed it up by saying:
“I recognize that it is an emotional day for many, as it represents an end of an era, one that will always be celebrated in this region.” -Robert Kraft
Belichick also got somewhat emotional (at least by his standards) about the departure. He summed up his thoughts by saying:
“I’ll always be a Patriot… For me, this is a day of gratitude and celebration.” -Bill Belichick.
The Patriots won six Super Bowls during the 24 years Belichick was the head coach. New England had three additional Super Bowl appearances on top of this. Kraft recognizes this greatness and wishes Belichick nothing but the best.
“What Bill has done will never be repeated. It’ll be difficult to see him in a cutoff hoodie on another sideline. I wish him success except when he’s coaching against our beloved Patriots.” -Robert Kraft
