The New England Patriots have a huge Free Agency coming up in March. They have plenty of cap space and head coach Jerod Mayo even said they will be bringing in talent and spending money this off-season. This is a huge change for Patriots fans who are used to Bill Belichick never saying a word when it comes to the plans in New England. Belichick always kept things very quiet and secretive around Gillette, so hearing Mayo talk about plans and hopes for better players, is a very welcomed change.
Whether or not free agents wish to commit to the Patriots is an entirely different story. The Patriots have had some incredibly down seasons recently so why would a player want to come to a rebuild? Maybe a rebuild could be a way to get players in the door, being apart of an up and coming team who could shock the world could be very intriguing. Not to mention, current Patriots star Matthew Judon always does his best every off-season to recruit big name players to New England. Judon has always been very open about how much he loves playing for the Patriots and if he can get some talented players to come to Foxborough this off-season, we could see a very different team in 2024.
The hiring of Jerod Mayo could also be a big selling point to free agents. Belichick was known for his very disciplined, and almost militaristic style of running the organization, so that may have pushed away players who didn’t want to play in that type of environment. Not to mention, the intrigue of playing with Tom Brady is no longer alive in New England. Mayo has been described by many as a player’s coach. He can get players to go to battle for him and want to win for him. This is a huge asset when it comes to head coaches in the NFL. The main thing to remember with Free Agency is that money talks. So if the Patriots offer a player a huge contract, it will be difficult for him to turn that down. New England has plenty of money to spend, so getting quality talent in the door at Gillette Stadium shouldn’t be an issue.
