The New England Patriots hold a lot of power in the 2024 NFL Draft. Whether they want to stay at third overall and pick, trade down to acquire more capital, or make a run at a big-time name on the receiver market, the Patriots need to have a plan. They need to put all their resources into making sure they are setting themselves up for the future. Could we see some big-time moves by the Patriots or some big-time moves that have huge effects on them? Luckily, fans will only need to wait a little bit longer to see what will happen on Draft night.
Some big names to watch that could be on the move are Brandon Aiyuk from the 49ers and Tee Higgins from the Bengals. If the Patriots act on their desire to weaponize the offense, they should be making plenty of calls around the league. An elite route runner such as Brandon Aiyuk would be a joy to watch in the AFC East against such great corners. He would also bring a great dynamic to the locker room, reuniting with his former teammate Kendrick Bourne. A player like Tee Higgins would also be a great asset for a rookie quarterback. His large frame and ability to outjump opposing corners would be extremely helpful for a young, developing field general.
It is believed by many in and around the NFL that New England will use the third pick on a quarterback, but could we see a huge twist when they make their pick? The Patriots could shock the world if they pass up on a quarterback and select Ohio State wide receiver, Marvin Harrison. Jr. Considering Harrison Jr. is one of the best prospects in the entire draft, taking him at third overall wouldn’t be that surprising. The only reason this could be shocking is because everybody talking about New England’s plans has said they will no doubt be taking a quarterback. But how much of an impact could a talented receiver have in Foxborough?
Harrison Jr. is a generational talent at the receiver position and would have an immediate impact on the field. Not to mention, watching star corner Christian Gonzalez, face off with Harrison Jr. in training camp would be amazing to watch. Finally getting a serious weapon on the New England offense would have the Foxborough Faithful jumping out of their seats on draft night. But if the Patriots front office wishes to address the quarterback position at third overall, could they look to make a blockbuster move in the trade market to acquire their number one weapon, instead of using their first-round pick on a receiver?
Can the Patriots solve all their problems during the Draft?
If New England can address the quarterback position with a player like Jayden Daniels, pair him with some other solid picks, and make a big-time trade, fans could see a faster rebuild than they thought possible. By attacking the draft with the mindset of completely revamping the offense, a newly rebuilt Patriots team could cause havoc in a wide-open AFC East, especially after the departure of Stefon Diggs from the Bills. The Foxborough Faithful should be in for a treat on Draft night, and hopefully, Eliot Wolf does right by the organization with his draft strategy.
