On the last day of the College Football 25 rankings showcase, EA Sports released its rankings for the top 25 overall teams in the game. With some time before the associated press releases their pre-season top 25, fans saw this as their first chance to get a glimpse of who some of the best teams in the country will be in 2024. Unsurprisingly, the Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes are the top 2 teams in the game, however, there are two teams in the top 25 that had college football fans scratching their heads.

Clemson Tigers: Ranked 6 (90 Overall)

Coming in as the 6th-best team in the game is the Clemson Tigers, who are a 90 overall in EA Sports College Football 25. The Tigers have the 10th best offense (87 overall), and the 5th best defense (90 overall). There is no doubt that the Clemson Tigers will be a competitive football team next season, but the sixth-best team in college football… that’s too high.
The biggest issue with Clemson’s ranking is their offense. The Tigers have the 10th-ranked offense in the game at 87 overall. Yet, in 2023 the Clemson offense averaged 29.7 points per game (52nd in the country), and 402.7 yards per game (52nd in the country). While it is expected this unit will improve heading into 2024, and 2023 statistics shouldn’t weigh too heavy on the 2024 season, the 10th-best offense in the country puts Clemson in elite company.
Clemson loses leading rusher Will Shipley to the NFL, but returns starting quarterback Cade Klubnik, along with its other offensive production from 2023, so this unit should improve.
Could Clemson win the ACC and get into the College Football Playoff? Yes, but this ranking is still a touch higher than it should be heading into the 2024 season.
Colorado Buffalos: Ranked 16 (87 Overall)

The 16th-best team in EA Sports College Football 25 is the Colorado Buffalos, who are an 87 overall. The Buffalos’ offense has an 89 overall which puts them tied as the 5th-best offense, and their defense is the 20th-best defense at an 84 overall. To think that EA Sports wouldn’t capitalize on the Colorado-Deion Sanders hype train and create a fun team for users to play with would be delusional, but that doesn’t mean this ranking is right by any means.
The Colorado offense finished averaging 28.2 points per game (60th in the country), and 363.6 yards per game (82nd in the country) in 2023. The Buffalos knew that type of production couldn’t repeat itself in 2024, and added a projected seven new starters via the transfer portal to try to surround Shedeur Sanders with more talent. Even with the added talent, to rank this offense 5th in the entire country is far too high.
The Colorado defense also received its flowers from EA Sports coming in at an 84 overall, the 20th-best defense in the game. The Colorado defense gave up 30.2 points per game (99th in the country), and 453.3 yards per game (125th in the country) in 2023. Just like their offense, Colorado brings in a lot of new players via the transfer portal to try and turn around this defense.
At FanDuel Sportsbook Colorado’s win total is set at 5.5 games.
While it was expected that EA Sports would juice Colorado’s ratings in this game, boosting the ratings to this magnitude is too much.
