Colin Kaepernick wasn’t always a political activist. The Former Nevada standout played quarterback in the NFL from 2011-16. However, his political activism, taking a knee, got him blackballed from the league at the prime of his career.
Colin Kaepernick is involved in politics.

Kaepernick has since become involved in many politically minded foundations and entrepreneurial enterprises. He runs the Know Your Rights Camp and has become the founder of an AI start-up to help independent content creators. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback also has a publishing company and recently released a children’s book he and his long-time partner, Nessa Diab, wrote together.
Kaepernick writes children’s books because he knows young minds are ‘impressionable” and he wants to empower kids. The themes in his books for children are political, Kaepernick recently explained what literature led him to become an activist.
What is behind Kaeperick’s political activism?

In a recent interview, the New York Times asked Kaepernick to list what books inspired his activism. He named quite a few books and authors that are behind his political action:
“The Autobiography of Malcolm X,” by Alex Haley, Malcolm X and Attallah Shabazz; “Revolutionary Suicide,” by Huey P. Newton; “The Wretched of the Earth” and “Black Skin, White Masks,” by Frantz Fanon; “Pedagogy of the Oppressed,” by Paulo Freire; “Black Awakening in Capitalist America,” by Robert L. Allen; “Women, Race and Class” and “Freedom Is a Constant Struggle,” by Angela Y. Davis; “I Write What I Like,” by Steve Biko; “Slave Patrols,” by Sally E. Hadden.
These books are written by incredibly brilliant minds and provide research and perspective that is grounded in the liberation of oppressed people, specifically Black people.
Kaepernick seems to appreciate works that tackle the subject of oppressed communities. That should be no surprise to readers, as his political activism has always been about trying to empower people to know what their rights are.
