The Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing 2023 season, finishing with a 7-10 record, and currently hold the 11th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Minnesota has around $24 million in cap space and is expected to have a busy offseason, as many players are free agents.
Fortunately, Minnesota and one of its pending free agents have agreed to move the void date of his contract.
The Minnesota Vikings agreed to move the void date of their free-agent pass rusher
Minnesota and EDGE rusher Marcus Davenport agreed to delay the contract’s void date. The void date was set for today, but both parties agreed to postpone it to March 13.
Minnesota will incur $6.8 million in dead cap for the 2024 season if they don’t re-sign Davenport before the contract voids.
If Davenport agrees to an extension before the contract voids, only $1.7 million of the dead cap will affect the salary cap.
Update: The Vikings re-negotiated the void date on Marcus Davenport's deal this weekend. It now matches the expiration date for the deals of Kirk Cousins and Danielle Hunter (3/13). A little more time to see if there is any common ground. Davenport's deal will NOT void today. https://t.co/Bfws6x7Sb4

Minnesota signed Davenport to a 1-year deal during the last offseason
Davenport signed a 1-year, $13 million contract last offseason.
Davenport appeared in four games in 2023, recording seven tackles, two for a loss, four QB hits, and two sacks. He missed Weeks 1 and 3 with an ankle injury and suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 6.
He underwent tightrope surgery in November and missed the remainder of the season.
