There has recently been a lot of talk surrounding Justin Jefferson’s future with the Minnesota Vikings. Multiple reports have already linked the All-Pro wide receiver to a possible trade away from Minnesota as he enters the final year of his current deal.
On paper, it would make sense for the Vikings to cash in on the 24-year-old now if they are unable to negotiate a contract extension. The last thing they want would be for Jefferson to walk away for nothing next summer as an unrestricted free agent.
Minnesota Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell Speaks Out on Justin Jefferson Trade Buzz
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell is having none of that, though. Speaking from Tuesday’s Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the Minnesota shot-called made his thoughts on potentially parting ways with his star wideout abundantly clear:
“I can tell you we have no intent to trade Justin Jefferson,” O’Connell said. via Josh Alper of PFT. “We have had zero discussions, dialogue about that either internally, externally, on this planet or another planet. I feel very strongly that Justin is best in his position in football. Any time you’re trying to reset the receiver market — we know who he is, we know what Justin’s earned through his first four years in this league — you know how hard it is. . . . It was never gonna be something that was just be easy to get done, but the intent was there. The intent is still stronger than ever to get something done with Justin.”
Not only did O’Connell shut down the possibility of trading away Jefferson, but he also hinted at the status of the contract negotiations between the team and the three-time Pro Bowler. As O’Connell said, Jefferson’s new deal is set to “reset the receiver market,” so you just know there’s going to be A LOT of money involved here.
