The Minnesota Vikings clearly believe in Alexander Mattison. They released Dalvin Cook in the offseason leaving Mattison as the number one back. He has 1,670 rushing yards on 404 carries with 11 touchdowns in the four seasons he has backed up Cook. While he has never eclipsed 500 yards in a season, he is ready for the opportunity to show he can be a true number-one back in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings Alexander Mattison Ready To Prove Himself
Mattison signed a two-year, seven-million-dollar extension this offseason. The Vikings hope this deal is a bargain and Mattison is ready.
“For me, it’s a great opportunity to step into the role, the limelight and the position I’ve always dreamt of being in,” Mattison recently told the Daily Delivery Podcast for The Star Tribune. “All the work I’ve put into this point, all the work following in [Cook’s] footsteps, side by side, challenging each other every day, prepared me for a moment like this where I can have the opportunity to seize what’s in front of me.”
Mattison has learned under one of the best backs in the league and is now ready for his own opportunity.
Outlook For Minnesota In 2023
2023 is going to be an interesting season for the Vikings. After winning 13 games last year, they are a prime candidate for regression due to how many one-score games they won. They have also moved on from many of their veterans in favor of younger and cheaper players. If those players overperform, the Vikings could find themselves in the mix for the NFC North crown again. If they don’t 2023 could go south very quickly. Ultimately, they still have Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson which will keep them in many games.
The Minnesota Vikings are hoping for big things from Alexander Mattison. They are hoping that he can produce similarly to Cook and have a big season as the number-one back.
