The Michigan Wolverines are riding high after winning the national championship last week. Now, they are having to deal with the realities of the offseason. They have seen some players decide to enter the transfer portal, but they also have had some verbal commitments to rethink their options. 2025 CB recruit Chris Ewald Jr. announced he is decommitting from the program.

Michigan Wolverines 2025 Recruit Chris Ewald Jr. Decommits
Ewald Jr. is one of the top cornerbacks in the country for the 2025 cycle. He has been committed to the Wolverines since December 16, 2022. His decision came on the same day as a couple of things happened in the program. First, Jim Harbaugh interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers, putting his status for 2024 in doubt. Second, many defensive players from this year’s team announced they were returning. This can affect what recruits decide to do, but the fact that Ewald Jr. is a part of the 2025 class makes it unlikely this was a huge factor in his decision.
Unknowns For 2024
There have been a couple of dominoes that have fallen. JJ McCarthy officially declared for the NFL Draft, meaning the Wolverines must find another quarterback for 2024. Blake Corum joins him, but that was expected. Donovan Edwards announced today that he is returning in 2024, a huge boost for the offense. The biggest question is who the coach will be. Harbaugh is listening to NFL offers, but the university is committed to trying to bring him back. If Harbaugh leaves, this program will undergo some serious changes.
The Michigan Wolverines have a lot of time to recover in the 2025 recruiting cycle. However, it is never great to hear a recruit decommit from the program.
