In the last month, the University of Michigan football program has added three four-star commits. The latest is Collins Acheampong, an athlete who projects to be placed on the defensive line.

Acheampong is a very interesting recruit in that he has not played football since his freshman year of high school. Even after taking time off to pursue basketball as his main sport, he has remained a top-300 prospect in the Class of 2023. Losing out on potential commits has been a theme for the Wolverines as many prospects have been less than intrigued by the NIL possibilities in Ann Arbor. Acheampong had taken extra time to make a decision as it was reported that Miami had done a better job in their pitch. All seemed lost until the 6’7″, 245-pounder signed on yesterday.
The Wolverines’ newest recruit does not have much film to go off of on the turf, but his basketball clips show off his explosiveness and overwhelming size. On the defensive line, we hope to see Acheampong make powerful strides and finesse moves toward the opposing ball carrier and that is exactly what he has done, just on a polished basketball court. Acheampong is not afraid to use his body and uses his long arms to make plays.
The 2023 recruiting class now features ten commits overall, with Acheampong and Brooks Bahr being the only two defensive linemen. Hopefully, this latest commitment will draw other talented prospects to Ann Arbor.
The Michigan football program still has dozens of players holding offers from the school and only time will tell how this 2023 class will shape up.
