The Michigan football program, in a display of unmatched passion and competitiveness, reached the mountain top last season. They went undefeated and ultimately won the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, the victory over their arch-rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, remains one of the many highlights of last season’s incredible run. The importance of beating Ohio State is so profoundly forged in the hearts of Michigan fans, and vice versa, that even two months after their tenth title, social media platforms are still ablaze with anti-Buckeyes discourse from the Wolverine faithful.
On Tuesday, former Ohio State head coaches Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel spoke to the media, hailing this year’s rendition of the Buckeyes as one of the most talented ‘in the last decade, maybe ever.’ In response, the resilient Michigan football devotees flooded Twitter, taking shots at the longtime bench bosses while proudly maintaining their team’s ability to beat Ohio State again in 2024.
Michigan Football Fans: Unfazed By Glowing Reviews of 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes Roster
Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer did not mince words when talking about this year’s Ohio State roster. “As of now, this is one of the most talented rosters in the last decade, maybe ever. I mean, that’s a big statement. They got to play, but you look at the quality of athletes at every position, I’ve never seen anything like it.” said Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to a victory in the 2014 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Urban Meyer with quite the statement about this years Buckeye team. He says he's never seen anything like the talent in the Woody.
Jim Tressel agrees, he says there is greatness everywhere you look. pic.twitter.com/2S8u6WQfKU

Fellow head coach and national champion Jim Tressel double-downed on Meyers’ comments, saying, “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that many great players in that building all at once… Ryan (Day) has done a great job.” Ohio State brings back a large portion of their 2023 roster, while the offseason pick-ups of quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins have elevated their ceiling. However, Michigan football fans are unfazed by Meyer and Tressel’s comments, which took to social media to clown on the former OSU head coaches.
Your greatest team ever huh 😈

Michigan vs. Ohio State: Late November Clash
As per the norm, the Michigan football program will square off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in late November. Michigan will travel to Columbus this year, where the Wolverines boat raced the Buckeyes in 2022. Michigan has beaten Ohio State three straight seasons, with the Buckeyes failing to break 30 points in any contest. Meanwhile, the Wolverines have averaged 39 points per game during that span.
With Michigan’s latest winning streak, they own a 61-51-6 record in the series. Michigan also holds the longest winning streak in the history of the rivalry, winning nine straight games from 1901 to 1909. Additionally, 2024 will mark the first game in five years where Ohio State head coach Ryan Day does not square off against Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines will enter the Sherrone Moore era next fall after Harbaugh darted for the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers.
