According to the Miami Dolphins, they have officially announced the re-signing of wide receiver Braxton Berrios on Thursday afternoon. This comes five days after the initial news broke about Miami and Berrios agreeing to a one-year deal.
Miami Dolphins Re-Sign Braxton Berrios
The Dolphins are in need of some offensive weapons. While the free agent signing period has been a fairly decent one for the team, bringing back Berrios was a smart and significant move.
Berrios is heading into his seventh NFL season, second with the Dolphins. Prior to his time in Miami, he was with the New England Patriots (2018), and the New York Jets (2019-2022). The wide receiver played in 16 games, receiving a start in one last season, where he totaled 27 receptions for 238 yards and one touchdown, his receptions putting him at the third-highest for the Dolphins.
Career wise, Berrios has played in 81 games with six starts, tallying up 134 receptions for 1,323 yards and six touchdowns.
In kick return, Berrios was a solid handle as well, averaging 10.2 yards on punt returns and 24.5 yards on kickoff returns; His longest punt return was recorded at 19 yards and longest kickoff was 33 yards.
Miami’s Offense Situation
Trying to explore the market for more offensive production should be top priority for the Dolphins. Adding another wide receiver behind Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill might not be a bad idea. While Braxton Berrios could carve his own role on offense, he’s likely going to see more time playing special teams.
There are several positions that are worth discussion, and luckily there’s still some good free agents out there for Miami to go after. Going through a roster change like this team has not only allows them to explore new options, but see who’s going to work best with who come regular season play.
Berrios becomes Miami’s seventh free agent to re-sign with the team. This follows the re-signings of CB Nik Needham, RB Salvon Ahmed, P Jake Bailey, DT Da’Shawn Hand, OL Isaiah Wynn, as well as restricted free agents Elijah Campbell and Robert Jones.
