The Jacksonville Jaguars signed a veteran quarterback to their 53-man roster Tuesday after reports came out early this week on Trevor Lawrence’s injury status. Lawrence suffered a sprained right shoulder during the Jaguars loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As of Monday’s report, the Jaguars don’t believe the injury to Lawrence is too severe. However, the Jaguars are unsure when Lawrence can return to start for the Jaguars again. The Jaguars made sure to add depth to the quarterback room on Tuesday before the team practices this week to play the Carolina Panthers.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Jaguars signed Matt Barkley to the active roster from the New York Giants practice squad.

The 33-year-old quarterback will be with the Jaguars as they attempt to make a push into the playoffs. The Jaguars are tied with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans for the AFC South lead. Barkley could be asked to take over for the Jaguars if anything happens to C.J. Beathard.
Signing Barkley to the active roster means the Jaguars have some concerns about Lawrence’s availability in the future. Lawrence has battled multiple different injuries since October.
Lawrence might not practice on Wednesday.
Per the Jaguars website, head coach Doug Pederson said Lawrence is still sore from the sprained AC joint, and the team doesn’t know when he’ll practice again:
“Pederson said Lawrence is progressing and that it’s too early to know his status for Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
“He’s a little bit sore, but he’s doing better today than he did yesterday,” Pederson said Tuesday afternoon as the AFC South-leading Jaguars (8-7) prepared to play the Panthers (2-13) at EverBank Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.
“We’ll see where is again tomorrow.”
Pederson also on Tuesday said he didn’t yet know Lawrence’s practice status for Wednesday.
“It’s a little bit early,” Pederson said. “He may do a little something tomorrow, but I would doubt that. It’s a little bit too soon, but we’ll see as the day, as the week, goes on.”
The also doesn’t look good for Lawrence’s availability if you’re a Jaguars fan.
