.. It is about that time where preseason award watch lists are starting to be unveiled. Today, it was announced that Kayshon Boutte is on the Maxwell Award watch list heading into the 2022 season. Boutte will look to be the leader in the receiving core once again for the Tigers after he saw limited action during the 2021 season.
Boutte’s sophomore season was cut short due to an ankle injury he suffered during the game against Kentucky. Boutte led the Tigers in receiving yards (509) and touchdowns (9) despite missing the second half of the season.
The New Iberia native will look to get back to posting the numbers he did during his freshman year at LSU. Boutte appeared in all 10 games in 2020 where he led the Tigers in receiving yards (735). He also finished second on the squad in receptions (45) and TDs (5). Boutte’s best performance came during the Ole Miss game that season. In that game, Boutte broke the SEC single-game record for receiving yards with 308 on 14 receptions.
The Maxwell Award is given annually to the outstanding player in college football. The last Tiger to win it was quarterback Joe Burrow, after his record-breaking year in 2019. This is Boutte’s second consecutive season being named on the Maxwell Award watch list. He received the same honors heading into the 2021 season. Boutte adds to his preseason honors, as last week he received the honors of continuing the tradition with the No. 7.
