It’s no secret the Los Angeles Chargers are amid a disastrous 2023 campaign. They have underperformed on the field, lost franchise quarterback Justin Herbert for the season with an injury, and have fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. However, with the dust settling regarding the firing of their top executive and bench boss, Telesco took to Twitter (also known as X) to thank the organization and fans for his time with the team.

Los Angeles GM Tom Telesco: Canned After Ten Seasons with Club
The San Diego Chargers picked Tom Telesco as their general manager in the winter of 2013. As the youngest GM in the franchise’s history, the Chargers posted back-to-back winning seasons to start Telesco’s tenure, including making the playoffs in his first season. However, the Chargers managed just nine wins from 2015 to 2016, with the franchise moving to Los Angeles the following year.
The first two seasons in their new city were successful, highlighted by Telesco and the Chargers winning 12 games in 2018. The Chargers again struggled in 2019, their final season with franchise cornerstone Phillip Rivers under center. The AFC West club drafted gunslinger and current quarterback Justin Herbert in 2020, a move orchestrated by Telesco. However, despite Herbert being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, the Chargers have made the playoffs just once in the past four seasons. The Chargers blew a 27-0 lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round. After ten years with the club, the team fired Telesco in December of this year.
In a tweet on Saturday, Telesco thanked the fans and franchise for his time with the team.
“I am grateful for my 11 years as GM of the San Diego/LA Chargers. It was an experience my family and I will never forget. The NFL is a people business, and I am thankful for the hard work, time sacrificed, and loyalty of so many. Thank you, Players, Coaches, Scouts, Trainers, Doctors, Video, Equipment, Public Relations, Grounds Crew, Security, Player Engagement, Digital Media, and specifically, Ed McGuire and JoJo Wooden. We are looking forward to our next chapter, and we will always be Bolt Fans.”
Los Angeles Chargers: Tough 2023 Season
The Los Angeles Chargers enter Week 16 with a poor 5-9 record. They are fresh off a 63-21 bludgeoning at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders, their worst loss in franchise history. The Chargers canned head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco following the defeat. Staley, the third head coach under Telesco, went 24-24 with the club.
