The Los Angeles Chargers need to cut some players this offseason in order to put themselves in a better position financially moving forward. With that said, it might be the best time for the team to trade linebacker Joey Bosa.
Bosa is only 28 years old and still one of the best in his position, but that’s also what makes him easier to move and get a significant return in the process.
Why Los Angeles Chargers Need To Trade Joey Bosa

The Chargers are $45.8 million over the cap, so they are already bound to release some veterans this offseason. Bosa will have a cap hit of $36.6 million in the 2024 campaign, with $22.2 million in dead money, so it’s definitely worth considering to move him.
Aaron Schatz of ESPN further detailed why a Bosa trade is the most ideal scenario for the Chargers, adding that they can get a big package of draft assets for him. Bosa is at the peak of his prime with two years left remaining on his contract, which is alluring for any contender hoping to compete for the Super Bowl in the new season.
Among the teams that could be interested in a pass-rush upgrade, Schatz mentioned the likes of the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions as potential landing spots for Bosa.
“The idea seems wild. Why would you deal a star pass-rusher still at the top of his game? The answer is that the Chargers are secretly in a bit of a rebuild for 2024. The team is $45.8 million over the cap and will likely have to jettison important veterans such as wide receiver Mike Williams. New coach Jim Harbaugh might want to compete with his new team right away, but it makes more sense to take a year and build something great for the future,” Schatz wrote.
“So, deal Bosa and get a big package of draft picks in return. There are plenty of teams in the NFL that could use a top pass-rusher. For starters, look at contenders who did not do well in pass rush win rate last season. The Packers were 19th (40%), the Chiefs were 20th (39.7%) and the Lions were just 27th (35.8%). Imagine Bosa lining up across from Aidan Hutchinson on every passing down as the Lions seek to repeat as NFC North champions.”
Of course it’s unknown how much interest the Chargers have in trading one of their best players, but considering that there have been talks about them possibly moving him this offseason, it’s not an out-of-this world suggestion.
Los Angeles Chargers’ Joey Bosa To Dallas Cowboys?

For what it’s worth, the Dallas Cowboys have been recently mentioned as a team that could have interest in Joey Bosa from the Los Angeles Chargers.
As Micah Parsons said recently, they need an elite pass-rusher in order to compete with the top teams, and Bosa certainly fits the bill.
A Bleacher Report piece also noted that with the Cowboys desperate to win the Super Bowl, they could pull the trigger on a Bosa trade.
For now, though, it has yet to be seen if any trade for Bosa will happen.

Trading Bosa clears a good amount of room and we have Tuli to take his position. My frustration with the new regime is that they have lied to the supporters of the team. They said their first order of business was to build the team around the skills of Herbert when they appear to be building a team that is geared only to running backs. Trading away Allen was the last straw for me as he and Herbert had a great connection and they had already dumped Williams, Ekeler and Everett. That doesn’t appear to be building a supporting cast for Herbert as the two tight ends they brought in are to help the running game as neither is known as a true receiver. Cutting Allen was an unwise move as it hurt the team and it hurt the fan base as Allen was still a top-notch receiver and someone we all wanted to see end his career as a Charger. Not a smart move!
