Positivity is high among Los Angeles Chargers fans now that Jim Harbaugh has taken over as their head coach. After winning everything there is to win in college with Michigan, fans will be hoping that he can apply the same brand of magic with their team.
For Harbaugh to accomplish his dream of a Super Bowl title, he needs to transform the current Chargers squad into a competitive side that can keep up with the best teams of the NFL.
Reaching that goal means that tough decisions will have to be made. One such decision would probably see a fan favorite leaving the team he’s always carried as one of its star defenders.
Los Angeles Chargers open to offers for Joey Bosa
Joey Bosa has always been a star player for the Chargers ever since he was drafted third overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. While he’s not had the most impressive career as a defensive end, he’s put up incredible seasons that would make any contender look forward to acquiring him.
However, he’s among the list of players who would probably not be a part of Harbaugh’s vision for the Chargers as he’s one of the biggest names that’s being passed around in trade rumors.
Per The Spun’s Andrew Holleran, ESPN’s Albert Breer reported that the team is open to trading him as well as multiple big names for 2024:
“The Chargers have had exploratory trade talks on OLBs Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack (as @DMRussini said), and WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Allen appears to be least likely to be moved, but they’re listening on all of them. It all, of course, relates to their cap situation,” he reported on Sunday morning.
What does this mean for the Los Angeles Chargers?
The fact that the Chargers are openly shopping Bosa and multiple impact players point to the possibility that the team is not eager to compete in the coming season. With the way Jim Harbaugh has been open about demolishing the entire Chargers roster, he may think that the current roster of players won’t be able to pull off the type of football he wants to play with Justin Herbert.
Sich a team-building approach would make sense for the myriad of moves the Chargers have been implementing so far. If the team does ship off Bosa and other key Chargers, fans can only hope that it will result in a more competitive roster that can stand up to the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the AFC.
