If you ask Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, he doesn’t want the Los Angeles Chargers hiring Bill Belichick if the veteran head coach ends up getting fired by the New England Patriots.
But that’s not because he doesn’t think Belichick is capable of still winning at the highest level after his struggles with the Patriots. In fact, it’s the opposite. Considering how much pain Belichick brought him in all the years he has faced his New England side, the Chiefs TE just doesn’t want to see him more often if he transfers in the same division as Kansas City.
Both the Chargers and Chiefs are in the AFC West, so it’s easy to see where Kelce is coming from.
So who should the Chargers hire as head coach after firing Brandon Staley? In a hilarious response, Kelce said he wants them to sign some “jabroni.”
“I don’t know. Go get a young, never-heard-of college coach,” Kelce said on his New Heights podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
“I don’t want a f**king good coach to come into my division. I hope they hire some jabroni, I hope they hire two jabronis that don’t know what they’re doing.”

Travis Kelce is hilarious. But who can blame him? Despite the fact that the New England Patriots haven’t had a great record since Tom Brady’s departure, that doesn’t mean Bill Belichick can be underestimated. One has to remember that this is a coach who has won six Super Bowl titles, more than any other coach in league history.
With that winning pedigree, Belichick could certainly become a threat to the Chiefs’ dominance in their division.
However, if Belichick does end up getting fired by the Patriots, it’s hard not to see the Chargers doing everything they can to land him. For the 71-year-old coach, that could be an intriguing prospect as well, especially since he’ll be able to work with a talented quarterback in Justin Herbert, all while facing tougher competition where he can shut down his critics.
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Has Nothing But Respect for Bill Belichick
While Travis Kelce doesn’t want to see Bill Belichick in the AFC West, he has all the respect in the world for him. Besides, he won’t fear the head coach if he isn’t that great.
The Kansas City Chiefs star even doubled down on his admiration of the New England Patriots coach in their podcast, saying that he made sure to give Belichick his flowers when they met in Week15.
“I just mentioned how much I respect him. It’s always the biggest challenge I go up against in the NFL is going up against one of his defenses. I just wanted to make sure he heard that from my mouth. It has been a pleasure going up against him all these years,” Kelce said.
Regardless of where Belichick ends up next season, there’s no denying that Kelce will always have the utmost respect for him.
