Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce doubled down on his respect and admiration for Bill Belichick despite the recent negative rumors surrounding the New England Patriots head coach.
To recall, after the Chiefs and Patriots faced off in Week 15, Kelce fired back at the firing buzz hovering above the head of the veteran tactician. The veteran TE admitted he couldn’t even think about the 71-year-old coach getting sacked because he still has “some football left in him.
“I just got all the respect in the world for that guy. Every single time I go up against him, it’s the toughest job in the NFL to go up against a Belichick defense. … Hats off to Belichick for today, for making my life tough,” Kelce added.
Now, in the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, the Chiefs superstar and eight-time Pro Bowler shared what he told the Patriots coach during their brief meeting on the field during Sunday’s showdown.
“I just mentioned how much I respect him. It’s always the biggest challenge I go up against in the NFL is going up against one of his defenses. I just wanted to make sure he heard that from my mouth. It has been a pleasure going up against him all these years,” Travis Kelce explained.
Bill Belichick definitely deserves all the praise and respect he’s getting from the Kansas City Chiefs star. He earned it for sure.
Despite the New England Patriots’ recent struggles, the fact remains that Belichick is one of the winningest coaches of all time and the most successful Super Bowl-winning coach with six titles.
Regardless of what the future holds for him in New England, his legacy is all but secured.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid Joins Travis Kelce in Praise of Bill Belichick
For what it’s worth, it’s not only Travis Kelce who gave Bill Belichick his flowers following Week 15. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shares a mutual respect for his New England Patriots counterpart, even going as far as to saying that he’s the “best to ever do it.”
The Chiefs also opted not to further embarrass Belichick and his Patriots during their 27-17 win, opting to take a knee instead of going for a score with 35 seconds left on the clock and the team facing a goal-to-go situation.
Belichick may be deserving of the criticisms he’s getting amid the Patriots struggles. Nonetheless, no one can ever take away from him the fact that he’s one of the best, if not the greatest coach in the history of the game.
