The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII victory parade was the site of a horrendous mass shooting on Wednesday. While the parade itself and the rally that followed it had come to an end, Chiefs players were still celebrating with fans when gunfire erupted on the site.
At the end of terrifying ordeal, one person lay dead, 22 were injured (including nine children ranging in ages of six to fifteen), and three people were in police custody. It was the 49th mass shooting in the United States of 2024, which had only seen 45 days pass.
After the shooting, several Chiefs players took to social media to express their condolences to the victims and to speak out against gun violence in America.
Kansas City Chiefs Players, Including Patrick Mahomes, Release Statements on Social Media Following Super Bowl Parade Shooting

One Chiefs player, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, is already working with Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City to coordinate a visit and help for the kids that were wounded in the shooting. This development came after he posted the following on X (formerly Twitter):
Any chance anyone can help me get in touch with these kids or families? First off I want to make sure they’re doing ok. But would love to help them out any way I can and get them some stuff from the team to help with the recovery. https://t.co/xlTJXLi7xT

Prayers for those affected at today’s parade. A time of celebration ends in tragedy. When are we going to fix these gun laws ? How many more people have to die to say enough is enough ? It’s too easy for the wrong people to obtain guns in America and that’s a FACT.

This 🤬 is SAD man! Kids are being shot and somebody didn’t come home tonight. We cannot allow this to be normal. We cannot ourselves to become numb and chalk it up to “just another shooting in America” and reduce people in statistics and then move on tmrw.
This is a SERIOUS…

As of this writing, the motive of the shooting has not been determined.
