The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII victory parade was supposed to be a time for players, the rest of the organization, and fans to come together to celebrate the team’s third Super Bowl victory in five years. But what was supposed to a joyous time for the city turned into terror. Multiple shooters opened fire, injuring at least 22 people, including nine children. One person, unfortunately, was killed.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, it was the 49th mass shooting in the United States this year. There have been only 45 days in 2024.
The nine children who were shot are currently being treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. One Chiefs player, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, has already begun the process of reaching out to the child victims and their families.

After three suspects were arrested and all victims transported to the hospital, Chiefs wide receiver MVS asked to be connected with the children’s hospital:

It truly is a touching sentiment that, after being in harm’s way himself, the only people MVS was concerned about in the aftermath were the children. He did not focus on himself, he wanted to start helping others right away.
And according to Mark Mayfield, who works with MVS both in Kansas City and Green Bay to coordinate signing events and other appearances, the process has already begun.
