The Kansas City Chiefs entered the postseason as the winners of the AFC West, an achievement they have accomplished every year since 2016. However, their superhuman quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, failed to post his usually elite numbers, totaling his lowest touchdown total since his rookie season, when he threw only 35 passes. However, he threw for 262 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers during his team’s win against the Miami Dolphins last Saturday, a contest played in inclement weather. Still, one NFL analyst, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, believes Mahomes is no longer the clear-cut “most dangerous” gunslinger in football. He ranked Mahomes as the third-best quarterback in the playoffs during an appearance on ESPN’s flagship show, First Take.

NFL Analyst Dan Orlovsky: Ranks Kansas City Chiefs QB Mahomes Behind Jackson, Allen
Orlovsky ranks Mahomes as the third most dangerous quarterback, behind Baltimore Ravens MVP Lamar Jackson and Buffalo Bills dual-threat gunslinger Josh Allen. Orlovsky also has Tampa Bay Bucs’ Baker Mayfield and Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love behind Mahomes, leaving Houston Texans’ C.J. Stroud, San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy, and Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff unranked.
Jackson looks to earn his second MVP Award after a stellar 2023 season. Despite failing to lead the league in any category, he led the Ravens to the best record in football while registering 29 touchdowns and 13 turnovers. Meanwhile, Allen posted an NFL-best 44 touchdowns this year. He also had 4,830 total yards. Allen threw for three touchdowns while running for a score during the Bills’ first-round playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes: Struggles with Efficiency This Season
Kansas City scored 371 points this season, their lowest since going 9-7 in 2014. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 picks. His touchdown percentage of 4.5 is a new career-worst since taking over as the team’s starter in 2018. The two-time MVP also threw a new career-worst 14 interceptions. Drops and missed assignments hurt Kansas City this season. Wideouts Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney have made crucial mistakes this season, resulting in close losses for the Chiefs. However, the Chiefs’ defense remains fantastic, finishing the season allowing the second-lowest amount of points per game (17.3).
