The title defense for the Kansas City Chiefs begins now. Behind the pairing of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs will always find themselves in the mix. However, football is the ultimate team sport. The team has been dealing with injuries to key offensive positions and there were concerns that they would be at full strength by week 1. GM Brett Veach gave a positive update on starters Kadarius Toney and Isiah Pacheco.
Kansas City Chiefs Getting Back To Full Strength
Toney had surgery on his knee recently after injuring it in practice. He hasn’t yet returned to practice but Veach said that he feels good about where the recovery is at. Pacheco has offseason surgery on his hand and shoulder and hasn’t been cleared for contact yet. The second-year running back led the team in rushing last season and had an excellent Super Bowl performance. Getting these two players back is vital as the firepower outside of Mahomes and Travis Kelce is a little suspect.
Chiefs’ Chances Of Repeating
I am not going to doubt Mahomes and Reid as they have shown they can win it all. However, this year is going to be extremely difficult. The Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Ravens, Bengals, Jaguars, and Chargers all have solid cases for winning it all. The Chiefs will not be able to take the regular season off and cruise the playoffs. Once they get to the playoffs, every week is going to be a tough battle. Obviously, they will be the favorites in many of their matchups but anything can happen in a one-game playoff.
The Kansas City Chiefs will have to defy the odds again in order to win it all. Lots of teams will be gunning for them but if there’s one thing we know, never count out Mahomes in a playoff game.
