The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to take their dynasty to the next level as they will play in their 4th Super Bowl in five seasons. As they get ready, many reports have come out about rumors that head coach Andy Reid and star tight end Travis Kelce are nearing retirement perhaps even after this season. The teams general manger made comments on these rumors on Wednesday.
Kansas City Chiefs GM Comments On Retirement Rumors
General manager Brett Veach addressed those rumors about the possible retirement of Kelce and Reid ahead of the Super Bowl. He was quoted saying:
“That is not something that I’ve heard directly,” Veach said on Audacy 610 Sports Radio’s “Fescoe in the Morning.”
He continued to say that this is not something he has heard at all and that he would be surprised to say the least if a retirement came soon.
“I don’t buy one bit of that, for what it’s worth. Maybe I don’t know anything, but I would be shocked more than anybody – and I talk to coach every day.”
Reid also addressed these rumors bluntly and comedically saying:
“My mom and dad told me this when they were working. “They said, ‘You’ll know when it’s time,’ and I’m ready to go right now. Let’s go,” Reid said.
Travis Kelce was A Bit Less Clear On His Retirement Rumors
Kelce was not as clear about his retirement rumors, but also claimed that he is not thinking about that just yet. It does seem like retirement is coming sooner for him than it is for his head coach Reid as tight ends usually do not have the longest careers and Kelce is getting up in age and stardom.
Kelce did not give any hints in his press conference about his future and was all about this one game in front of hi,. After the season he will see how he feels and what the best decision would be for him for his future. Kelce has had an incredibly season romantically and it would not be surprising if he decided to call it a career after accomplishing just about everything you can at his position.
